20 Bank and Program Management
3.7 Restoring the Factory Library
If necessary, it is possible to restore the original factory library of banks and programs. The original
factory bank files are located in the following folders:
On Mac OS startup disk:
/Library/Application Support/Applied Acoustics Systems/String Studio VS-2/Factory Library
On Windows 64-bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Applied Acoustics Systems\String Studio VS-2\Factory Library
On Windows 32-bit:
C:\Program Files\Applied Acoustics Systems\String Studio VS-2\Factory Library
Restoring the factory library simply involves copying the files contained in these folders and
pasting them in the user bank folders listed in Section 3.5. The user bank folders can be opened
directly in an Explorer or Finder window, on Windows and Mac OS respectively, or by using the
Show Files command directly from the String Studio VS bank manager.
Note that if you have bank files with the original factory bank names in your user bank folder,
they will be replaced by the original factory files. This means that you will lose programs that you
would have modified or created in these banks. This operation must therefore be done with caution
and it is recommended that you make copies or rename your user banks before proceeding with the
restore.
3.8 Importing Programs from String Studio VS-1
String Studio VS-2 includes a converter that allows one to import programs from String Studio
VS-1. The conversion operation first involves the creation of an String Studio VS-1 .axf export file
using the Export command from the File menu of String Studio VS-1 . This file must then be
copied with the other String Studio VS-2 banks in the following folder:
On Mac OS:
/Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Applied Acoustics Systems/String Studio VS-2/Banks
On Windows:
%AppData%\Applied Acoustics Systems\String Studio VS-2\Banks
The simplest way to access the bank folder is to use the Show Files button in the String Studio VS-2
bank manager which will open a Finder or Explorer window on Mac OS X or Windows respectively
at the right location.
The String Studio VS-1 export file will then automatically be converted to an String Studio VS-2
bank having the same name as that of the .axf export file. This new bank will appear along with the
other banks in the banks manager and include converted versions of all the programs contained in
the .axf export file. Note that the programs will appear in the new bank as a flat list which means
that any sub-folder organization within the export file will be lost in the conversion process.
